The Health and Safety Act requires that there be a first aid kit in every workplace. Some may argue that a woodworking clubroom is not a workplace. The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 defines a workplace as “a place where work is being carried out, or is customarily carried out, for a business or undertaking”. Some club constitutions establish a clear undertaking for members of that club.

Regardless of the legal requirement, the NAW recommends that every clubroom has a first aid kit. St John No.1 Plastic Workplace First Aid Kit would be best.

This kit would provide enough things for lacerations, impalements, etc., and eye wash is now done just with a running tap. Obviously, you would be hoping someone on hand would know how to stabilise an impaled object and not try to remove it.  This kit has a cold bag which could be used to keep a finger cold while waiting to get the ambulance.  We would just suggest adding a plastic bag to put a finger in along with the icepack.
