Ornamental Turning Scholarship
This Scholarship was originally for training at the Lynn Historical Woodworking Trust Inc. in conjunction with the Ashburton Woodturners Club. The Scholarship now provides travel expenses to and from Hamilton where Fred Irvine, one of New Zealand’s leading ornamental woodturning craftsmen, provides a three day “hands-on” training course at a time agreeable to all parties. The Scholarship pays for the return travel from the recipient’s home in New Zealand, to Hamilton, and members of the Waikato Guild of Woodworkers provide the accommodation and hospitality.
Applications are accepted only from NAW individual members, resident in New Zealand, who need to be experienced turners with confident tool skills, patience, and an eye to detail, and who arc looking for an extra dimension in turning. The applications may be made by any NAW individual Member. Such applications must include such information as:
- Full name, postal and email address, telephone number, NAW membership number, and age of the applicant.
- Brief outline of woodturning experience, including an outline of any prior experience in ornamental turning and a statement explaining what benefits the Scholarship will bring the applicant and the applicant’s Club or Guild.
- Amount of grant sought, the purpose for which the grant will be applied, and the reason why such support is needed.
- The names, addresses and telephone numbers of two referees who are familiar with the work of the applicant and who may be contacted by the NAW Committee.
