The Wellington Guild of Woodworkers will be holding their biannual “Festival of Wood” exhibition of woodcraft and woodworking at Pataka Museum, Porirua from Friday 31 October to Sunday 1st December 201
The exhibition is aimed at giving visitors to Pataka the opportunity to view a wide range of the woodcraft produced by Guild members. The primary focus of the exhibition is on displaying the best of the Guild’s work, works that include wood turning, carving and furniture making.
In addition, the Guild is repeating their very popular activity where members occupy the central foyer of the museum for the 2 -3 November for a weekend of woodcraft. There will be demonstrations and displays by woodturners, carvers and toy makers, with members interacting with the public on such activities as wood embellishment and painting, and the use of traditional skills such as green wood carving and turning. Members will display their skills, answer questions and encourage participation in the ongoing activities of the Guild.
As has been the custom in the past, the Guild has arranged a number of games and competitions for the children, taking place from 1pm on Saturday.
Troy Grimwood from Taupo will be participating in the activity weekend. Most NAW members will know of Troy and his work, and the Guild is very pleased and grateful that Troy is able to take the time out to add value to the demonstrations and help make the event the success it has been in past years.
